What the Museum offers for group charter visits

A charter visit to the Tramway Museum offers your school or community group the chance to visit on a day, or at a time when the Museum is not usually open.

It also means that you would normally receive the undivided attention of our staff in a structured program for a 2 hour period.

We offer the experience of a tram ride on an historic vehicle and a guided tour of displays at the Museum site.

Also available if required are souvenirs and refreshments.

What the Museum offers school groups

We welcome school group visits as we can demonstrate an important part of Adelaide’s transport history.

Our guided tour offers a commentary describing changing living conditions, pace of life, travel patterns and community attitudes reflected in the 130 years of tramway operation in Adelaide.

How much time do we need?

We recommend 2 hours for a visit to allow for introduction, tram ride, tour of displays, toilet break, recess break.

How much will it cost?
$5.00 per student, teachers/supervisors free.
Minimum charge $125.00 (equivalent of 25 children).

How many children can visit?
We can accommodate up to 60 people in a tramcar.
We like to work with groups of about 10 children.  It would be useful for you to have these groups planned before your arrival.

When can we visit?

Any week days during school term.  Suitable arrival times are 10.00am or 1.30pm, but times can be negotiated.
Vacation Care groups can come any week-day of school holidays, but we prefer Wednesday mornings.

What about safety?
Good supervision is necessary on your part as children may be riding on open-sided trams.
We urge you to prepare children for their visit in terms of safety, behaviour and listening carefully to their guides.
We ask that children walk (not run) on our site.

How can we book?
Complete the Charter Booking Form available on this page and email it to the museum at jdro0401@bigpond.net.au
or phone the Museum on 08 82974447 or 08 8280 8188 (as volunteers we may not always be there, but you can leave a message).
or post to Tramway Museum, St Kilda, S.A. PO Box 213 SALISBURY SA 5108.

A month’s notice is needed for us to accept a booking.

  Families and small groups
Is there a deal for small or family groups?
The best time for a small group or a family group to visit is on a normal operating day.

The Museum is open from 1pm to 5pm on:
Sundays and public holidays (excepting Christmas Day, Good Friday and Easter Saturday).
Wednesdays of the April, July, September/October and December/January school holidays (excepting in December before Christmas Day).

What is the deal?

Everyone in the group is admitted at the Concession rate ($7.00), which covers admission to the Museum and unlimited rides on the trams for that day.
